Spring: New Mercies, New Beginnings

By Heather Eden, LPC, CHC · October 2026

There is a morning in early spring when you step outside and the world has changed color overnight. The first green tips are pushing through soil that looked lifeless a week ago. Every one of them is a small resurrection — proof that what looked finished was only waiting.

The courage of new growth

Spring is the season of beginning again, and beginnings take courage. A seedling risks everything to break the surface. So do we, when we start the thing we've been putting off: the conversation, the habit, the prayer life, the dream. It is tender work. New growth always is.

But here is the promise woven into every spring: God is not finished. His mercies are new every morning — not recycled, not rationed. New. Whatever winter held for you, this season is evidence that He makes all things new, including tired hearts.

A practice for the season

Plant something. Literally, if you can — a pot of herbs on the windowsill, a row of seeds in a bed. Tend it daily and let it disciple you. Growth is slow, mostly invisible, and entirely worth it.

Then, in your journal, write down one thing you are beginning. Offer it to the Lord in a single sentence. Tend that, too.

"Behold, I make all things new." — Revelation 21:5
