Morning Rhythms for a Rooted Day
By Heather Eden, LPC, CHC · October 2026
The way a morning begins often decides the tone of the whole day. A rushed morning sends us out the door already behind; a rooted morning sends us out already held.
Begin before the noise
Before the phone, before the news, before the list — begin with stillness. Even five quiet minutes tells your soul that it, not the world, gets the first word. Open the Word before you open your messages. Let Scripture be the first voice you hear.
Nourish gently
A rooted morning cares for the body as well as the spirit. Warm water before coffee. A real breakfast eaten sitting down. Your supplements taken with intention rather than swallowed on the way out the door. These small acts are not chores; they are a way of honoring the body God gave you.
Keep it small enough to keep
The best morning rhythm is the one you will actually follow. Choose three anchors — perhaps Scripture, nourishment, and one moment of gratitude — and let everything else be optional. Faithfulness grows in small, repeated things.
"In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly." — Psalm 5:3
